iPad Digital Menu Serves “High-Tech Haute Cuisine” at Bellevue Palace2 min read
The Restaurant La Terrasse, the gourmet dining venue at the nearly 100-year old, five-star Bellevue Palace, in Bern, Switzerland – the official hotel of the Swiss government and the Swiss Confederation’s “official state guesthouse,” with its “stunning views of the Bernese Alps” — began live streaming from the kitchen at the beginning of the year. Using an integrated webcam, the restaurant set up a live feed from the kitchen to each guest’s iPad digital menu, so guests can watch behind the scenes in real-time as the chef de cuisine works his culinary magic in the kitchen. The hotel calls it “high-tech haute cuisine.”
Guests at Restaurant La Terrasse, which, given its close proximity to the Bundeshaus (the seat of the federal government), often includes members of the Swiss Federal Council and Diplomatic Corps, are served an iPad digital menu before dinner, on which they can browse all of the culinary treats and fine wines offered in the prestigious restaurant, which was recognized in the highly prized Gault Millau restaurant guide in Switzerland in which it earned an incredible 16 Gault Millau points for its exquisite taste combinations.
From their iPad digital menu, guests can also peruse the historic guest book, whose entries and inscriptions date back to 1936 and, according to travel+wine.com, include comments from such notables as Grace Kelly (the beloved American actress who became Princess Grace upon her marriage to Prince Rainier III of Monaco in April 1956) and Communist dictator Fidel Castro, the former President of Cuba, or view the exclusive collection of fine, rare cigars (not surprisingly, predominately from Cuba) available in Bellevue Palace’s celebrated smoking lounge, Le Fumoir, which was officially inaugurated on May 31, 2010.
Once they have made their selection, the iPad digital menu lets guests at Restaurant La Terrasse watch live as chef de cuisine Gregor Zimmermann and his kitchen team prepare their meal. They can also send compliments, criticisms, questions, requests, and other comments to the head chef right from their iPad digital menu.
The iPad digital menu at Restaurant La Terrasse makes it possible for guests to participate in the entire cooking experience, while seated comfortably at their table; for Chef Zimmermann to custom-tailor the restaurant’s impressive dishes to reflect each guest’s particular taste and preference; and for Restaurant La Terrasse to deliver an unparalleled level of attention to its guests, without even the slightest hint of invasiveness. Such is the nature of “the grand art of culinary hospitality” and “the promise of a superlative dining experience” at the Restaurant La Terrasse.
