An iPad Restaurant App Will Host the Wine List at The Rib Room2 min read
Legendary British restaurant, The Rib Room, will present its 50-year-old wine list on an iPad restaurant app, when it reopens next month, following an extensive refurbishment by acclaimed interior designer, Martin Brudnizki. Online magazine Resource says, “the re-opening next month is sure to be one of the most anticipated of 2011.”
The iPad restaurant app will enable guests to search The Rib Room’s wine list by grape, vineyard, region, year, style, or price; peruse detailed descriptions and tasting notes provided by Sommelier Louise Gordon; or explore a more in-depth history of specific vintages.
Replacing its printed wine list with a high-tech version on an iPad restaurant app is, perhaps, the first break in tradition for this “bastion of great British cuisine,” where even the food is steeped in history. The Rib Room is named for its famed signature dish, Roast Rib of Aberdeen Angus Beef, which has been a favorite of royalty, nobility, celebrities since the restaurant first opened its doors in 1961. The beef is exclusively supplied by the renowned, centuries old, Buccleuch Estates of the Duke of Buccleuch & Queensberry, KBE [Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire], FRSE [Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh], DL [deputy lieutenant], in Scotland.
The Rib Room is located in the 5-star Jumeirah Carlton Tower in Knightsbridge, just a stones-throw away from prestigious Harrods – the world-famous department store, which says it once “hired a live Egyptian cobra to protect the shoe counter, guarding a £62,000 pair of haute couture ruby-sapphire-and diamond-encrusted sandals” – and the array of luxury designer boutiques that line sophisticated Sloan Street. The location makes dinner in The Rib Room’s relaxing, yet elegant, atmosphere, accompanied by a selection from the exquisite wine list featured on its new iPad restaurant app, the perfect end to a long day of world-class shopping.
After dinner, guests can retreat to the new cigar terrace to enjoy a cigar with a glass of their favorite brandy or one of the fine ports offered on The Rib Room’s iPad restaurant app.
