iPad Restaurant Apps Demystify the Menu at Mythical Russian Buyan2 min read

Traditional Russian folklore tells of the sacred and elusive Buyan – a mystical, mythical island which is “the epicentre of all forces of life.” Its namesake, Buyan Russian Haute Cuisine & Caviar Bar, is the epicenter of Russian food and culture on the island-nation of Singapore. Buyan magically transports its guests from its entrance in the hip Duxton Hill district to the bygone era of Tsars, Tsarinas, and Russian banquet halls – an experience presented on not one, but two, completely different iPad restaurant apps – one for casual dining and one for Russian haute cuisine.

The iPad restaurant apps punctuate the restaurant’s three distinct areas: the dark wood Vodka & Caviar Bar (where Sommelier Indra Kumar serves up some 50+ unique labels of vodka, 100 Russian beers, a vast collection of wines and champagne) and main kitchen, overlooked by the private dining room and 7.5-metre-long Chef’s Table, on the first level; the domed, two-tiered fine dining salon, with its traditional red and gold motif and hand-painted murals, on the second, and a casual dining area on the third

Buyan’s iPad restaurant apps also reflect the passion of wine connoisseur-restaurant owner, Julia Sherstyuk –Viswanathan. Buyan’s $5 million wine cellar of French, Russian, and Georgian wines includes a collection of 20 of the rarest vintages in the world, such as a bottle of the world’s most expensive champagne, Piper Heidsieck 1907, from a 2,000-bottle shipment purchased by the court of Tsar Nicholas II and a 170-year-old bottle of Veuve Clicquot.

From blini – Russian blintzes that date back to the ancient festival of Shrovetide in pre-Christian Russia, to beef stroganov – a dish originally created by a French cook for Count Alexander Stroganov, General Governor of Southern Russia (1795-1891), to Russian mors – a drink made from a variety of native Russian berries that traces its history back to the reign of Yaroslav I the Wise in the 11th century, both iPad restaurant apps at Buyan not only mesmerize guests with tantalizing photos of authentic Russian cuisine, but satisfy their craving for historic detail and Russian folklore as well.
