NFL Teams Toying with Making Mobile Ordering a Reality at Games After Sales Skyrocket2 min read
If you happen to live near Philly and you love your Eagles and game day – you might be in for a technological treat the next time you are attending an NFL game at Lincoln Financial Field. If you have a 3G or better enabled smartphone (Android, iPhone or Blackberry), you’ll be able to connect to their mobile ordering hub and create a user account and store your financial information securely. Once you have your account created, you can browse food menus of eats and treats as well as drinks, and place orders directly from your club seat as well as tender payment and even add a tip.
Currently the mobile ordering apps are undergoing the final phases of the testing process. However, it seems like that Eagles fans will get this desirable amenity sometime in the near future. After running a test trial of it, sales skyrocketed for the NFL team – to the tune of a solid 56% increase in food sales. The team is still weighing its options with the ordering system, and plans to unveil it for the 8,000 club seats that the stadium houses in time for the 2013/14 NFL season.
In the future, Eagles fans could be placing food orders from their smartphone devices, and from their seats – as opposed to waiting in those strepitous lines that often cause fans to miss a few minutes of priceless game time just to get nachos and a beer refill. The ordering system is coyly being dubbed as “Bypass Lane” because it enables fan to literally bypass those treacherous food and drink lines.
In the future, it’s not unrealistic to foresee such handy order food apps in place at NFL stadiums nationwide. For that matter, one shouldn’t overlook other major sports arenas that host events like MLB, NHL and NBA or even collegiate stadiums—where there are more smartphone users than anywhere else (as smartphones are used more by the 20-something demographic).
