Pitt Stop: New Go-To Place for Fine Tequilas has Self Order iPad Menu3 min read
Verde Mexican Kitchen and Cantina (“Verde”) – Jeff Catalina’s new upscale Mexican restaurant which opened last Monday (November 28), following a soft-launch two weeks earlier, is set to become Pittsburgh’s destination Mexican restaurant and the area’s go-to place for fine tequilas. Verde (Spanish for “green”) is not just positioning itself as an authority on authentic Mexican cuisine, but on “the most authentic of Mexican spirits,” complementing Chef Lynette “LBee” Bushey’s interpretive palette of fresh authentic gourmet Mexican fare, with more than 150 varieties of tequila, presented on what is believed to be the world’s first iPad tequila menu, i.e., an interactive, rich-media self order iPad menu exclusively for the cantina’s vast collection of fine tequilas and mescals. Tequila selections are served in 1.5 oz. pours with traditional sangrita.
Verde’s tequila self order iPad menu offers far more than a simple list of the tequilas. The interactive iPad menu lets guests browse the entire collection of fine tequilas, learn about each expression (blanco, reposed, and anejo), get a close-up look at the bottle, read the label, get expert reviews, explore an individual distillery, discover how and where tequila is produced, or load the site to their smartphone.
Verde is in the process of adding additional features to the interactive self order iPad menu, including, social media (so guests can tweet the tequila they are currently viewing and/or their selection to their Twitter followers, post it for their Facebook friends, or tweet their compliments, complaints, or other comments directly to Verde); a “Tequila Passport” (so guests can save a tequila they’ve sampled to their favorites or check-off tequilas they’ve tried and earn special incentives as they work their way through the 150 varieties); a “You Say” tab (so guests can write their own tequila reviews); and direct self-order functionality (guests can send their own order to the bar right from the tequila iPad menu, or order another shot, without having to wait for a server).
For Verde, enabling their self order iPad menu for tableside payment and paperless electronic receipts is not just the fastest, easiest, and most convenient way for guests to order and pay, it’s also the greenest. Moreover, letting guests order and pay how and when they want will help the cantina reach the Millennials at nearby Duquesne University (see our previous blog post, “Digital iPad POS Gets Pizza into the Pan and the Fire Faster.”)
Down the road, perhaps Verde will add Chef LBee’s culinary offerings to the self order iPad menu. That would make it faster and easier for the chef to make changes to the food menu, like the daily specials (without incurring printing costs); let guests visually sample the selections before placing their order; free servers to serve more tables or spend more time with guests; significantly reduce waiting time for guests; and further the restaurant’s goal to expand guests’ knowledge and understanding of authentic Mexican cuisine, as well as authentic Mexican spirits.
